on sunday we arrived home from our super fun monkey birthday party with friends- action packed with fun- a pinata, bales of hay, play doh, bubbles, cake and ice cream ... and some really really really delicious vanilla coconut cupcakes. yummy. i admit it, i ate two. none of my children had one and no one was looking...it was just me and my conscience. i could swear that someone said that all the food at birthday parties have no caloric value. the birthday gift that keeps on giving---so, i figured it was safe. worth every not-calorie. mmmmmmm.

what was i saying? when we got home in the evening the arbor on the studio was finished!!! i was surprised- i thought he would work on something else; some sculpture maybe or digging with the track hoe. but no! yipppeeeeee! coming home to that made me a very happy mama. you know how some people need one of those honey-do lists. well i was lucky enough to hit the jackpot there. my partner is an incredible craftsman and his talents are many, and i don't say this lightly. he never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge of materials and processes. he loves his work and is happy doing it. really zen like that. most impressive however is his creative problem solving and his sheer, utter determination. the man is relentless- never gives up. he will work at it until he figures it out because he believes that nothing is impossible. a gift, apparently from his father, of which my son has also inherited. the best part about that is it trickles down to his life philosophy; not only his work ethic. truly an admirable trait; and one of many i might add. i like the guy- a lot. alottalot.
it really looks so pretty and gives the building some depth. the doors have all been bleached and cleaned and ready for paint- so i will be off to benjamin moore sometime in the next few days. i like paint shops, and ben moore makes that great paint ECO SPEC which has really low voc's... they also have great colors and small sample jars for two bucks. this is a nice idea for folks who are colorphobic and you know who you are. you can test out a small spot.
another fun fun fun part is planning what to grow on the arbor- which, fortunately, gets a good amount of sun. i am thinking of a hardy evergreen clematis, or maybe some simple boston ivy. then i can mix in some darling annual heirloom cottage climbers with varying bloom times. though roses could be nice too. decisions, decisions. i am happy it is coming along so nicely. it's getting there....soon it will be a creative oasis for all to share.
